I’ve just come across another good example of marketing hype with labeling… In a very posh hotel they are offering complimentary bottles of green tea in their rooms.
Here is what the bottle states:
Green tea with honey and ginseng
100% all natural
Where great taste and goodness ‘naturally’ come together. Green tea for its health benefits, ginseng for energy and nature’s natural sweetener, honey.
Now for the first three ingredients in order:
Green tea in filtered water
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
Honey
Here’s a product using all those lovely healthy words and descriptions, when the second highest ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup! Or as otherwise know – Corn Sugar. ie: it is just another name for refined sugar!
I find myself dumbfounded! Though I really shouldn’t be so surprised…
As I’ve stated in my previous blog – What’s in a name?, the marketing experts will get you every time if you’re not careful.
So once again I urge you to not be fooled by the tempting words and pretty designs on the label, but to read the actual ingredients…

Ever since I watched a documentary called ‘The Disappearing Male’ a few months ago whilst flying from Perth to London I’ve been meaning to write about this subject. I only saw this Canadian programme by accident – there was not enough time left of the flight to watch a full movie and the title caught…
We’re recruiting new members for our chia squad, and once you’ve read about all the benefits, we guarantee you’ll want to join us! Chia seeds might be teeny tiny, but they sure pack a nutritional punch. Here’s the lowdown… Fibre! We all know how important it is to get enough fibre in our diets, essential…
It has been flipping hot in the UK! Seriously hot!!! With record-breaking temperatures it has certainly been interesting trying to keep oneself cool. My favourite way has been enjoying making my very simple ‘nice-cream’ made with frozen bananas as the base. This is a recipe we made regularly when we ran our retreats and it…
